BMI Calculator

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple screening measure that compares your weight to your height. It is widely used as a general indicator but does not directly measure body fat or health.

Formula

BMI = Weight (kg) ÷ Height² (m²)

If you have weight in pounds and height in inches, first convert them or use the equivalent formula:
BMI = (Weight in pounds × 703) ÷ Height² (inches)

Example

Weight = 70 kg, Height = 1.75 m
BMI = 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = 70 ÷ 3.0625 ≈ 22.9

Standard Adult Categories

  • Below 18.5 – Underweight
  • 18.5 – 24.9 – Normal
  • 25.0 – 29.9 – Overweight
  • 30.0 and above – Obese

Important: BMI is a screening tool only. It does not account for muscle mass, bone density, age, or sex differences. Always consult a healthcare professional for personal health decisions.
